Prime Day started 4 years ago on July 15th, 2015. Customers were given amazing deals on various products. Amazon had a simple goal, to offer “a volume of deals greater than Black Friday”. The outcome, happy shoppers and Amazon sellers.

The first Prime Day lasted for 24-hours and 34.4 million items were ordered. This was the largest sales day in history, worldwide! Each year after that (2016,2017,2018) Amazon Prime Day, was improved with more eligible products, Whole Foods sale participation for in-store shoppers, and most importantly better more competitive discounts.

Prime Day 2018: When Things Got Real

Last years Prime Day was the busiest yet. More shoppers and more sales equal a lot more traffic! This was the biggest global shopping day in Amazon history. Over 100 million products were purchased in a 36-hour period.

As a result, tons of online shoppers were having issues using the Amazon website being it couldn’t handle all the increased traffic. Various pages wouldn’t load or “couldn’t be found”. Links were broken and unresponsive, causing Amazon’s various “Dogs of Amazon” error page to show. These dogs of amazon were a pleasant way to let shoppers know something was wrong with the Amazon site. The Amazon dogs became an overnight sensation and frustration. Various people on social media expressed their frustrations and amusement.
