To better understand if a mesh network is the right solution for your home, we must first understand how mesh networks work.

How do Mesh Networks Work Different Than a Typical Network Setup?

Mesh networks are the future of home Wi-Fi connectivity. They provide an easy way to set up a fast and reliable network that can span large distances to accommodate any size home or business.

Most home networks have a Wi-Fi router that connects to a modem or it could be a modem/ rotor combo that is built into one device. This setup then creates a network that spreads a certain radius and any devices connecting to this network can connect to each other and ultimately connect to the internet.

A mesh network uses a main hub that connects to the router and then connects to other identical hubs that are spread throughout different locations in a home. This creates an extended network that increases speed and range dramatically.

How do the Mesh Network Hubs Efficiently Increase Speed and Range?

Let’s get a bit more specific in terms of how the mesh network hubs achieve this increased range and speed. Each mesh network hub creates a fast connection between each hub and the main hub. Each hub then produces its own Wi-Fi network that devices connect to, to reach the internet provided by the modem connected to the main mesh hub that is physically wired into the modem through an Ethernet cord.

These mesh hubs are smart and they follow no one specific pattern when connecting devices to the internet. This means the mesh network tries to achieve the most efficient and fastest connection for each device on the network. Each hub communicates and understands when a certain hub is being overwhelmed with traffic so other alternative paths to the master hub/ modem are made. The mesh network is constantly determining the best hub to connect to so that speeds stay consistent even when multiple devices are connected to the network. Hubs can even be skipped if they are too busy with traffic to help spread to workload throughout the network.

The Benefits of a Mesh Network Setup

  • First off, a mesh network is very easy to set up!
  • Mesh hubs only need a power outlet to function so they can be placed virtually anywhere.
  • Mesh networks help to drastically increase the range of a network while keeping consistent speeds.
  • A mesh network is great for large homes or businesses.
  • Increase your 5ghz coverage that always lacks range but has amazing speeds.
